Note from Admin- Entrecard

I have had to re-apply to Entrecard, as they deleted my blog when Blogger accidentally flagged it as spam. If you had pending ads here, they are all gone, and I have a new EC account number. My apologies for any inconvenience, I hope your credits were given back and that you won't hesitate to advertise here again.

No New CMF Network Ads

I PREVIOUSLY WROTE: I will not be accepting any new network ads on CMF. After my calculations from yesterday at Just Throw Money, I have decided that it is just plain unfair to those who have paid a full 10 cents a month to advertise here. Instead of their ads being shared among 3-6 others, they are now shared among 12 others, giving them much less exposure time.

I have already accepted the initial wave of ads, but I won't be accepting any more.

UPDATE 2/3/10: The CMF staff have addressed this concern by limiting network ads to 30% of the views on any blog. Given this response, I will now accept any network ads that I feel are appropriate.

Note from Admin

I took a brief vacation from this blog-- just was getting somewhat burned out. Will try to stay on track for a while now. There is plenty of news, I just need to get it posted!

Map Number to be Added to Posts

OutdoorBlips: vote it up!
if you like this article, click the Blip chiclet!
admin note

map button From now on, all posts will also contain this small graphic, with some text following it. That text will be the name and source of the trail map on which the events in article occur. In some cases, the topic will be more general, or from other trails. In that case, the information will simply not be included.

Outdoor Blips - News Feed For Outdoor Lovers

Outdoor Blips logo

OutdoorBlips: vote it up!

You may have noticed the chiclet that now appears on the posts near the top. This is for the news feed site, Outdoor Blips.

Very few social networks include categories for outdoor activities. This can be extremely frustrating to those of us who live and breathe such activities. The newest one I've found is Outdoor Blips. There are categories for Hiking & Camping, Hunting & Fishing, Water Adventure, Climbing and Other.

Anyone can submit an outdoor story to the news feed by going to the site. And, more to the point here, if you like any story on this blog, just click the chiclet, and you have voted to move the story higher in the news feed. What a great way to publicize the NCT!

Gone Hiking!

The owner of this blog has gone hiking, and won't return till near the end of May. To follow the hike, in the Arrowhead of Minnesota, on the North Country Trail, go to My Quality Day.

Thanks to all my readers. See you in a few weeks!

Looking for Guest Bloggers

While I am hiking not much is going to happen on this blog. I will only have internet access a couple of times, and I go to the woods to get away from all the technology.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who would like to be given access as a guest blogger to at least do a few posts between May 5 and May 28.

WE WON $1000 for the NCTA

WE WON! See http://smallaa.com/contest/!

If everyone acts quickly we could win $1000 for the NCTA!

Go to http://www.smallaa.com/post/1885
Register on the site (they will not send you lots of junk emails)
Log in and go back to http://www.smallaa.com/post/1885
Click on the top right star above the picture of the sad, burned Kekekabic Trail

All votes must be cast by midnight (I don't know what time zone) Tuesday, December 9. Last week's winner had 334 votes, so tell your friends. We'll have to enlist a bunch of trail supporters to make it happen.

(I won't lie, the win would also provide me some money which would allow me to continue to do things like provide this blog, but I promise to donate $1000 to NCTA.)

Will Add Notices of Special Programs

Thanks to the seven people who voted, I'll announce any special events hosted by chapters, that I know about, here. This won't be a calendar for everything. But programs with speakers, special outdoor events, and things like that appear to be of greater interest than regular business meetings, monthly hikes, etc. So... let me know when you have things planned!

What Would You Like?

Readers! Would you like me to add short listings of upcoming events which are sponsored by chapters that are something beyond regular business meetings, or short day hikes?

This blog is not intended to be a calendar of events, but it might be of interest for chapters to see what their sister groups are doing across the trail.

Take the quick poll in the right column and help me decide!

Welcome!

With the blessings of the North Country Trail Association, this blog will post as many items as are available to keep anyone interested informed of things that are happening along the North Country Trail.

There are quite a few items that have recently come to my attention, and those will be posted and backdated with the sequence in which they occurred.

There are some tweaks to the format to do, and I hope to find a better header graphic... maybe even change it seasonally, but this will get us started.

Please! Continue to send me information about things that are going on in your chapters, states, etc. And tell everyone you know who is interested in the NCT to stop by, and click the link at the bottom to subscribe. If you have a blog of your own through blogspot, you can sign on as a Follower too.

It is my great pleasure to launch this blog. I think of it as a continuation of the former "News" column on the NCTA web site.
